Two children are seriously injured and two adults are fighting for life after their car was pushed into trees on a Victorian road.

The car had five occupants and was towing a trailer when it collided with a truck on Benalla-Yarrawonga Rd in Goorambat just before 7pm on Thursday.

The impact from the truck caused the car and caravan to be pushed into trees just off the road.

All of the five people in the car were injured, including two adults who were airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

A third adult and two children were also taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

The truck driver was not injured and is assisting police.

Police are investigating the crash and are yet to determine exactly what caused it and anyone with information is urged to contact them.
