A man is missing in stifling heat after his car became bogged, and he separated from his travelling partner in outback Queensland.

The 25-year-old man from South Australia had been driving on Woomanooka Rd in Durham, in the southwest Queensland corner, on Sunday afternoon.

He was travelling in convoy with a woman in another car. Both cars became bogged.

“They were walking to get help when the woman turned back and the pair became separated,” police said in a statement.

The man has not been seen since.

On Monday, police on the ground and in the air searched for the man.

Mustering helicopters are being used in the search.

“It has been a very hot weekend in this area, with temperatures believed to be about 40 degrees on Sunday,” said senior constable Mark Baker, who is coordinating the search.

“Police are in touch with the man’s family as search efforts continue.”
