A search is underway on NSW’s south coast for a teenager believed to have been swept out to sea after rescuing a relative from the surf.

Emergency services were called to Congo Beach, about 10km south of Moruya, on Boxing Day afternoon following reports a man was missing in the surf.

The 19-year-old man had rescued a family member who was experiencing difficulties in the water, when he became caught in a rip and was swept out to sea, NSW Police said.
