A female pedestrian was seriously injured when an allegedly drunk driver ploughed into her, pinning her between his van and a South Asian grocery shop, about 5pm on Monday in Homebush West.
The driver allegedly fled, leaving the 27-year-old woman trapped until emergency services arrived to rescue her.
“The woman was freed by NSW Fire and Rescue before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition,” NSW Police said.

The woman had been walking on Hornsey Rd when the van hit her and crashed into the shop.
The business owner told 7NEWS he had closed up his shop, which he had owned for 24 years, at 1pm on New Years Day but rushed back when he was alerted to the incident by a phone call.
He called the damage “a disaster”.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do, I don’t know how long it will take and how they are going to fix it,” he said.
A 52-year-old man was later arrested a short distance away and taken to Auburn police station where he returned a breath analysis reading of 0.133.
He was charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, driving under influence, dangerous driving occasion grievous bodily harm, driving in a dangerous manner, failing to stop and assist after impact causing grievous bodily harm, and negligent driving (occasion grievous bodily harm).
“Police will allege in court the man fled the scene after hitting the woman and did not attempt to render aid,” NSW Police said.
The man was refused bail and is set to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday.
