Passengers injured as light plane crashes on Lizard Island in Great Barrier Reef

Passengers on a light plane were injured when the aircraft overshot the runway on Lizard Island in the Great Barrier Reef.

7NEWS understands eight adults and one child were on board when it crashed on the luxury resort island off Cape York on Monday morning.

Two people were reportedly injured.

Two rescue helicopters are travelling to the scene, Queensland Ambulance Service said.

“Two rescue helicopters are responding to reports of an aircraft incident while it was landing on Lizard Island around 7.30am,” QAS tweeted.
