When officers arrived, they checked on the condition of the driver and passenger in the car that was hit and both were taken to hospital for treatment.

They quickly established the car that had hit them was allegedly stolen and started searching for the man with the help of the dog squad.

But they didn’t need to look far, as a few minutes later they saw an Uber leaving a nearby hotel carpark.

They pulled over the driver on Wellington Rd and the passenger jumped out of the rideshare vehicle and ran again.

Officers chased him and arrested the 31-year-old after a short pursuit.

He has faces various charges including theft of a motor vehicle, committing an indictable offence while on bail, unlicensed driving, careless driving and fail to render assistance.

He will front the Magistrates’ Court later on Wednesday.
