An internet banking issue has hit ME Bank customers, with the company citing technical problems as they scramble to get back online.

The Australian direct bank based in Melbourne first mentioned the issue on their website at 7.15pm AEDT on Wednesday, with the outage still impacting customers as of 3.30pm AEDT on Thursday.

“We’re continuing to work through the technical issue with our support teams,” ME Bank posted to their website.

“We know you rely on us to be able to access your money when you need it, and we’re sorry to have let you down. We’re hoping to be back online soon.”

The issue is currently affecting the ability to log into Internet Banking and the ME Mobile App.

ME Bank is advising any scheduled payments and transfers will be delayed, and account balances may take a few hours longer to update than usual.

Customers can still use their cards for payments, but the bank says limits may apply.

The bank also took to social media to reassure customers their data is safe.

“We can assure you that your accounts are safe,” it said.

“We understand how frustrating this may be.”

Customers vented their frustration online, with one person customer saying that “an outage of over 15 hours is ridiculous”.

“This really isn’t acceptable on my pay day,” said another customer.

The last update was posted about 1pm, with further updates expected.
