“Feels so good to be back, it was an amazing break, just so nice to relax and chill out,” Matt began.

The former Olympian said he “didn’t do much,” but took time to meet with a number of viewers on his break.

“I didn’t do much — got to be honest with you — but got to meet a number of Sunrise viewers along the way,” he said.

The anchor said he got rained out while on the Gold Coast, as southeast Queensland was hit with some wild weather.

“A lot of time in the hotel room with the family, which in itself was nice too, just hanging out with the family,” he said.

Matt finished by saying he enjoyed some sleep-ins while on holidays, adding: “Sleep-ins, how good are sleep-ins?”

Matt and wife Jessica have three children: Sienna, Winnie, and Lincoln.

Speaking to 7NEWS.com.au in December, Matt revealed how he stays in shape during the Christmas period, saying he keeps a medicine ball in the boot of his car.

“It’s cathartic putting on the headphones and working out,” Matt said.

Matt said the medicine ball allows him to squeeze in a 45-minute workout, often at a nearby park, if he is too busy to make it to the gym.

The champion runner said he will usually do six sets of ten lifts with the medicine ball, lifting with his legs, before doing multiple laps jogging around the park.

“It gives you an all over body circuit,” he said.

Matt and Nat finished the year on a high, with Sunrise named Australia’s No.1 breakfast show.

Shirvo said he relished in the passion and energy of the breakfast program.

“It’s great — I’m feeling great,” he said, before the break.

“I love the show, the people, and our viewers are always at the front of our mind.”
