A man has drowned at the brand-new inland beach at Penrith in a Boxing Day tragedy.

NSW Police said the man entered the water with a paddleboard, went under and failed to resurface.

Police and NSW Ambulance paramedics were called about 2.35pm and the beach was shut.

Police divers and the Toll rescue helicopter were on-site, along with the SES and Fire and Rescue NSW.

There were initial concerns for a child, but they were taken from the water uninjured and did not need to be looked at by paramedics.

Boats were in the water looking for the man’s body throughout the afternoon before police confirmed he had been found.

“Following a search, the body of a man, believed to be aged in his 30s, was located about 6.15pm,” police said.

“He is yet to be formally identified; however, is believed to be that of the missing swimmer.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

It comes after two people drowned at Central Coast beaches in separate incidents on Christmas Day.
