Langer scored 7696 Test runs for Australia in arguably the country’s greatest ever team, alongside the likes of Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Steve and Mark Waugh, Adam Gilchrist and Shane Warne.

He went on to have an accomplished coaching career, starting as Australia’s men’s batting coach before taking the reigns at Western Australia and the Perth Scorchers, where he won several titles, and eventually rising to the top job as Australia’s head men’s coach.

Langer led the country to an Ashes win, the world No.1 Test ranking, and lifted the T20 World Cup trophy for the first time in Australia’s history in 2021.

Few others in the world can claim to be as qualified to coach cricket as he is.

But surely none of his contemporaries in the sport can also lay claim to his other qualification — aerobics instructing.

The 53-year-old was reminded of his random career move while watching replays of Hassan Ali and Travis Head lead Bay 13 to some of their best dance moves.

“It takes me back to the old aerobics heyday,” Langer said after seeing Ali have fun with the rowdy Melbourne crowd.

Langer’s former teammate, Simon Katich, was intrigued.

“Were you into that, back in the day, ‘Alfie’? You had a lot of different fitness regimes,” he said.

Langer confirmed: “Aerobics might have been up there. I reckon I might have got my aerobics instructor’s degree at one point — with the leg warmers and the fluro bike pants and the headband”.

Fellow 7Cricket commentator Alison Mitchell had to have a double take.

“Hang on — a degree? An aerobics instructor qualification?” she said.

Langer replied, sheepishly: “Yeah, and my family still remind me of it. I’d be out there, out the back, taking them through some aerobics”.

“That sits along nicely with your black belt in karate,” Mitchell said.

Katich added: “You are a man of extremes, there’s no doubt about that”.
